IN BLOOM in the Outer South East Area

Whinmoor ‘B’  had a very busy spring and summer in 2009 putting their green fingers to use for the benefit of the community. The planting began early in 2009 when 3000 crocus and 200 mini daffodil bulbs were added to the 32 new trees along the new Whinmoor Way.

In preparation for the late spring bloom, the Committee also planted over 2000 daffodil bulbs in the grounds of Swarcliffe Primary School . They were assisted by Nathan Vaughan, the Neighbourhood Warden for the area who arranged for some community services workers to help out with the heavy digging and also the creation of 3 new flower beds on Swarcliffe Avenue, Farndale Approach and Sherburn Road, the community service workers also helped out with pruning and weeding the garden areas at Brayton Green bungalows which Whinmoor ‘B’ created in 2005/6. Whinmoor ‘B’ managed to secure funding from the Outer East Area Forum for the new flower beds.  Dot Scahill, Secretary of Whinmoor ‘B’ commented that “ the makeover of this old and tired wall shrubbery bed is beautiful and when we look around the area we know all the hard work was well worth it”.
