Government Boiler Scrappage Scheme
As part of the UK’s plans for CO2 reduction, the Government is offering £400 to scrap your old G-rated boiler and swap it to a new A-rated model
With effect from 18th January 2010 up to 125,000 householders could qualify for a £400 voucher for scrapping their old boilers and replacing them with a more energy efficient A-rated boiler or renewable energy system. Information on this scheme can be obtained by following the link to the Official Government Web Site
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Nl1/Newsroom/DG_183748
To qualify for a £400 voucher you must be a home owner, and the old boiler must be the main one used to heat the home. If you are the tenant of a privately owned property, your landlord has to apply.
The boiler to be scrapped must be in working order, unless you are over 60, in which case this requirement is not applicable. The scheme is currently open to residents in England only, and there is one voucher allowed for each household.
Who Qualifies?
- Homeowners living in an owned or privately rented home (i.e. tenants) in England.
- Have a working G-rated boiler, which is the main boiler used to heat the home. The exception is for homeowners (including tenants) over 60, where the boiler does not need to be in working order.
- ONLY homeowners and landlords who privately own and rent residential properties (i.e. dwellings) are eligible to apply for 1 boiler scrappage voucher.
Who Doesn’t Qualify?
- Boiler Installers and Manufacturers.
- Local Authority registered social landlords.
- Housing Associations.
How to apply?
First of all you need to arrange for a qualified installer to give you a quote for changing to a new energy-efficient boiler.
Once you have received a quotation, you can call theEnergy Saving Trust on: 0800 512 012 oremail them here.
You will need to supply them with the following details:
- Your name
- Address of the property where the old boiler is situated
- Make and model of the old boiler
- Details of the installation company
- The type of replacement boiler that will be installed
It will normally take up to ten days to receive your voucher, but you must receive the voucher before having the replacement boiler installed. Once your new boiler has been installed, you need to send your invoice together with your £400 voucher to the Energy Saving Trust. They should advise you of the address when you apply for your voucher, but you can check with them on: 0800 512 012.
Once you receive your voucher it must be used within 12 weeks of the date of issue otherwise it will be cancelled. You can apply for another voucher providing funds are still available.
